Using Advanced Search

On the Advanced search form, you can create a search using field codesproximity operators, or boolean operators to narrow the scope of the search.

This is useful when the field code you need, such as author ID, is not available on the Basic Search page drop-down menu.

To create an advanced search

  1. Enter your search terms using or operators as necessary to connect them.

For more information on creating searches see Search tips.

  2. As you enter your search, Scopus may highlight suggested codes and provide code definitions and examples.

To add the suggested code to your search, press Enter.

  3. Click Search

Exclude PubMed Results

In Advanced Search, add "AND NOT INDEX(medline)" at the end of the query and most PubMed results will be excluded.

Caution:  Use "AND NOT" carefully.  Scopus and PubMed retrieve results differently so it is possible to retrieve records in Scopus that you missed in PubMed.
