Your English 109 class will be made up of arguments. Whether you choose one topic or several, there are a steps to follow for every assignment.

• First, you need background information.  What is the history of your topic and why should we care?
• Second, you need to look at all points of view. What are others saying about your topic?
• Finally, what is your position?  Only after you've looked at all the evidence can you make up your own mind.

This guide will help you go through these steps. Each assignment has a tab that addresses the specifics of that argument (based on your textbook readings).
