The Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) is a collaborative consortium of more than 85 hospitals across the United States and Europe dedicated to improving perioperative care through large-scale data sharing, research, education, and quality improvement (QI).
MPOG integrates anesthetic case data from institutional electronic health records (EHRs) into a common registry managed by the Coordinating Center at the University of Michigan. Participating sites contribute validated perioperative data, which supports benchmarking, research, and the development of evidence-based QI measures.
UAB joined MPOG as an active member in 2023, marking a major institutional milestone in perioperative data science and quality improvement.
Membership connects UAB faculty, CRNAs, researchers, and learners to one of the largest perioperative databases in the world, enabling:
Research opportunities using perioperative physiologic, medication, and laboratory data.
Quality benchmarking through standardized performance metrics.
Educational initiatives that link data analytics with patient safety and outcomes research.
For ACGME and internal quality reporting purposes, MPOG data also strengthens our department’s ability to demonstrate measurable engagement in continuous QI and scholarly activity.
