Library Technology Labs: 3D Printing

UAB Libraries boasts two 3D printing labs, one at Lister Hill Library and one at Sterne Library.

There are now 5 3D printers and one desktop 3D scanner available in Sterne Library 3D Printing, and a multitude of resin and filament printers in Lister Hill Library 3D Printing.

Anyone interested in using a UAB Libraries 3D printer must complete required training and review and sign the certification for use of the 3D printers. The certification includes the following:

By using the 3D technology Users are certifying that the objects they are printing:

1. 1. Are not prohibited by law.
   2. Are not unsafe, harmful, dangerous or threatening to the well-being of others.
   3. Are not obscene or otherwise inappropriate.
   4. Do not knowingly violate another’s intellectual property or privacy rights.
   5. Are not and will not intended for direct sale, retail, or immediate commercial use.
   6. Will not be used  in human research or human clinical settings other than for educational purposes.
   7. Will not be used in animal laboratory settings without first obtaining approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

Please note, the 3D printing labs are not open to the public. Completed prints will be made ready for pickup at their respective LibLabs.

EinScan-SP Tabletop 3D Scanner and workstation 

There is one EinScan-SP V2 3D scanner connected to a desktop workstation in Sterne Library 3D Printing. The scanner is available for drop-in use on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations or training are required to use the scanner. A printed manual for the scanner is available at the workstation.
