Scientific Writing

IMRaD Format

IMRaD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) is a common organizational structure used in scientific writing.

IMRaD format is a reflection of the way science is done:

  1. Problem is identified  (introduction)
  2. Methods are developed to explore particular elements of the problem  (methods)
  3. Results of the methods are reported and analyzed  (results)
  4. Implications of the work are considered  (discussion)
