Citation managers are software programs that help users collect, organize, format, and share references.

Zotero is a free citation manager that may be downloaded for Windows, macOS, and Linux (32 or 64-bit).

Mendeley is a free citation manager that may be downloaded for Windows (7 or later), macOS, and Linux (64-bit).

EndNote (desktop) may be downloaded for free by UAB students through a campus site license from UAB on the Hub.
EndNote Online may be accessed for free by creating an account through the Web of Science database (click on Products in upper right corner and select EndNote then click on the Register button).

Download and install the Zotero desktop product and web browser connector.
Click on the web browser extension to capture the bibliographic information and full-text (as PDF file) if detected by Zotero on the page.
Create collections (and subcollections) to organize references.
Use the word processor plugins for Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs to format sources in citation styles including IEEE.
Register for an online account and create a group in the Zotero web library to share references with collaborators.
