Materials will be loaned to departmental faculty, residents, and staff. Medical Students rotating through the department will be permitted to borrow a maximum of 10 items and will be asked to return all materials before the end of their rotation.
*Items are only renewable if not requested by another user during the circulation period.
Renewals may be requested in person, by phone or email. Library users are responsible for remembering when their items are due.
Articles that are available through UAB Libraries’ electronic collection are available on and off campus through the UAB Libraries’ websites. When a library user is unable to locate the full text of an article the librarian will send a link to the article, not the PDF. This protects UAB from potential copyright infringement. Links will connect the user directly to the article while on campus and prompt the user to log in using their Blazer ID and password when off campus.
Article requests of materials available through print via Lister Hill or Sterne Library will be scanned and digitally delivered to the user.
All UAB users can submit Interlibrary Loan requests through Lister Hill and Sterne Libraries using their Blazer ID and password. The Anesthesiology Librarian will provide instruction on how to use the interlibrary loan system and can also submit requests on your behalf, time permitting.
Reference and Search Requests:
The Anesthesiology Librarian is available to assist with information requests and literature search services related to research, clinical care, and teaching responsibilities associated with the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. These services are available to all members of the Department, including:
Medical students and residents will be asked to participate in the search process by meeting with the librarian to conduct the search. All users are encouraged to schedule a consultation with the librarian when requesting a new search in order to ensure that all parties are satisfied with the results. Faculty, staff and residents can also request reference services by phone or email whenever necessary.
Timeline for requests:
Requests regarding urgent patient care will receive first priority and will be completed as soon as possible. The librarian will make every effort to answer most requests within 24 hours; however, in-depth searches may take a week or more to complete depending on the complexity of the request and the number of other outstanding requests. Search requests for systematic reviews and comprehensive literature searches will typically take longer to complete. It is important that the librarian understand the requestors timeline in order to plan accordingly.
