UAB Libraries subscribes to several literature searching databases. Each database varies in scope and can index different sources, but many of the health science databases have overlap in sources. Database searches are able to be reproducible and well-documented (with the exception of Google Scholar).
Most health sciences databases use a controlled vocabulary to help standardize indexed terms. This especially helps with searching consistently for concepts with multiple terms. Ex. heart attack vs. myocardial infarction

UAB Libraries uses OneSearch for its catalog search feature, which allows users to search for multiple library resources all in one interface. When searching under "Everything" the search results pulls up not only materials within UAB Libraries but also related resources not within the catalog, such as journals, newspapers, and magazines, etc.
You can search only the catalog by switching the dropdown to "Library Catalog"
It is not recommended to use the library catalog when doing a quality literature search, because it is not reproducible. Use a literature searching database, such as PubMed, to ensure reproducibility and a higher quality search.
You can locate the OneSearch feature in the top center on any of the main landing pages for UAB Libraries
