This biographical work was written by WIlliam Osler about antebellum Alabama physician, John Young Bassett. He received his medical degree from Washington Medical College in 1830 and set up a medical practice in 1836 in Huntsville, Alabama, where he spent most of his life. Housed in the Reynolds-Finley Library is a Scrapbook on Slavery compiled and written by Bassett.
