EndNote (Desktop Version): Adding Citations Manually

Manual Entries

There are several different ways to enter citation information in EndNote. Manual entry enables users to enter information about a source by typing information in to an entry form with predefined fields.

Adding Information Manually

1. To add a reference manually, go to the References menu in EndNote and select the New Reference option.

2. A new window will open and a blank reference template will be displayed. Select the type of reference from the Reference Type drop down at the top of the window. Changing the Reference Type will change the template provided, including the specific fields for the reference entry.

3. Enter reference information in the template.

4. When the reference entry is complete, go to the File and select Save to save the information in the entry.
