Smart groups are dynamically updated with references that match the search criteria.
The maximum number of custom and smart groups is 5,000 per library.
Smart groups may be renamed, edited, or deleted by displaying the groups menu or right or control clicking on the name.
OR
Select edit group to modify the search criteria.
1. In EndNote, go to Groups > Create Smart Group.
2. Give the smart group a name in the Smart Group box. Enter the search parameters and specify from the drop-down menus the field in which the term(s) should appear (e.g., Title, Author, etc.). Click Create.
In the example above, all references with the name Krieger anywhere in the Author field will appear in the smart group. This smart group rule will apply not only to references currently in the library but also any references added to the library from that point forward.

In the example above, the smart group has been automatically populated with four references that have the name Krieger in the Author field from the library.
