The Cite While You Write (CWYW) feature in EndNote enables users to quickly change the formatting of citations and reference lists within a document. This feature is supported by coding that the EndNote program adds to the document when citations are inserted using the tools in the EndNote tab in Word. Only citations that have been added to a document with the tools in the EndNote tab can be changed quickly using the automated tools from EndNote.
1. Locate the drop down menu next to the word Style in the ribbon under the EndNote tab. The style that a document is currently formatted in. To select a different style, click the drop down arrow to view additional style options.
2. Click the citation style in the list that you would like to apply to the document.
3. Document content that has been added with EndNote will automatically be changed to the new style. If the automatic change does not occur in the document, click the Update Citations and Bibliography button in the ribbon. After the update is complete the citations in the body of the document will appear in the new format and the reference list at the end of the document will also reflect the new style.
