Groups are used to organize references in the EndNote library.
They point to a subset of references that already exist in the library.
There are several types of groups:
Group sets are used to organize groups in the EndNote library.
When you click on a group or group set, the name is highlighted and the reference list is updated to reflect the references found in that group or group set.
Permanent groups are automatically generated by the program and may not be changed.
Temporary groups are automatically generated by the program as commands are executed and may not be changed.
The contents of the temporary groups are replaced each time the commands are executed and the groups are deleted when the library is closed.
Recently added group is built into each library and allows the user to see the latest references added.
The recently added group may be customized to show references added in the last 24 hours, last 7 days, last 14 days, or last 30 days by right or control clicking on the group name and selecting the option.
Custom groups are manually created by the user to organize references in the library.
The maximum number of custom and smart groups is 5,000 per library.
Smart groups are dynamically updated by applying search criteria to each reference as it is added or edited in the library.
