EndNote (Desktop Version): Exporting and Importing from SciFinder

If unable to open the downloaded RIS file using the web browser (step #5), import the references.

1.  In EndNote, display the file menu and select import.

2.  Locate the downloaded RIS file then click on the options button.

3.  Select reference manager (RIS) as the import option.

4.  Click on the import button.

NOTE:  References may be exported in tagged format (*.txt) and imported using the SciFinder (CAS) filter.

1.  In SciFinder, check the boxes next to the items to be exported (#1) then click on the export button (#2).

NOTE:  Items may be exported one at a time by clicking on the title then the export button.

2.  Select citation export format (*.ris) under citation manager (#3) then click on the export button (#4).

3.  Open the file using the web browser (#5).

4.  In EndNote, find the references in the imported group (#6).

1.  Locate the downloaded RIS file at the bottom then click on the open button (#5).

1.  Select open with and click on the arrow to display the programs.

2.  Find the EndNote program then click on the OK button.

OR

3.  Confirm open with EndNote is selected then click on the OK button (#5).

TIP:  Check the box next to do this automatically for files like this from now on to automatically open RIS files with EndNote.

TIP:  Locate the downloaded RIS file in the upper right hand corner then click on the filename if not getting a pop-up box (#5).

1.  Locate the downloaded RIS file in the downloads folder then drag and drop it onto EndNote in the dock (#5).

OR

Locate the downloaded RIS file in the upper right hand corner then click on the filename (#5).

TIP:  Try a different web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Opera if having problems opening the RIS file with Safari.
